Forestal engineer Enrique Meléndez in charge of the Petaquilla Gold. S.A. company soil revegetation program, indicated that the revegetation work starts once the mining engineers inform that the area will no longer be explored, at which point the work starts for the soil recovery company specialists.
Meléndez explained that the process begins with the revegetation of grass and easy reproducting gramineous, once the markings have been done lines are drawn where the scions will be sowed- the hole-digging –where the scion is sown- and the application of organic fertilize not to contaminate the soils and water sources in the area.
Meléndez indicated, that other used species are leguminous like beans that have the particularity of fixing nitrogens in the soil and besides the agricultural-foresting technique that consists in the mixture of forestal plantations with agricultural plantations is applied.
